Sowing Excellence · Est. 17 Years Ago

Our History

It started with four children, a front porch, and a bedtime prayer.

Seventeen years ago, Sowing Excellence started on my front porch with four children and a lot of prayer.

It began with my own daughter. I had taken her out of first grade to teach her at home. I knew it was the right decision, but it was hard on her at first, and she missed her friends. So every night before bed, we prayed together and asked God for one thing: a friend.

Within a few weeks, people started to notice a change in her. Not just in her schoolwork, but in her character, her confidence, and the way she was with other kids. Friends and family noticed too, and before long they were asking if I'd teach their children the way I was teaching mine. That was never the plan. But I said yes, and four little ones climbed my porch steps to learn together. That was the start.

This school has my whole family's fingerprints on it. My oldest son gave it its name and picked our verse, Luke 8:15. My daughter drew our logo. My youngest son was our very first student, and years later, our very first graduate. What began as an answer to a bedtime prayer turned into something our whole family was called to do.

Who we are today

That porch has grown into a full learning center. In the 2025/2026 school year, 65 students from kindergarten through twelfth grade learned with us.

Our students take the core subjects: math, English, history, science, government, civics, and economics. They also get electives like music, art, and woodworking, and our high schoolers step into leadership through student council. Every day starts the same way, together, with prayer and the pledges to the American, Texas, and Christian flags.

Learning here doesn't stay inside four walls. Every month we take a field trip tied to what we're studying in history or science. Through the year we read aloud together, a chapter at a time, usually alongside a unit study, and our older students pair up with the younger ones as reading buddies. It's the kind of learning that sticks, and it grows real friendships across every age. (Ask our students about Larry the Lemur, or catch them singing "Sow Mercy," and you'll get a sense of the joy here.)

Families trust us with their children, and we don't take that lightly. Our teachers are Christian educators. Some are certified, some are homeschooling parents themselves, and all of them complete Safe Gatherings background checks and training. Every classroom has a CPR-certified teacher and full supervision.

Character is key

We believe character is the foundation for everything else. With God's character, a child can learn anything.

That belief shapes how we teach and how we treat each other. Prayer is the ground we stand on, and Christ is at the center of it all. Our mission is simple: to give families an education with excellence and purpose as they raise a generation to impact their world for Christ. We plant seeds of hope and faith, and we work to strengthen both mind and soul.

"But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop." — Luke 8:15

That's the seed we planted on a porch seventeen years ago. We're still watching it grow, now in our new home in the Elgin and McDade area, where a new community of families is finding us.
